Cloth $19.95 | 0-9717214-0-8 |   2005
A delightful book recording the pleasures and pitfalls of daily life on the family dairy farms in upstate New York.
Description
Part biography, part chronicle of social life and customs, part memoir, the pieces in this collection draw heavily on Richard Triumpho's experiences as a farmer, but he also wrote for Hoard's Dairyman on a wealth of other subjects, including his trips to Russia, China, Switzerland and New Zealand. The essays here reflect the diversity of his interests, from artificial breeding in dairy cows to taking a banya (steam bath) in Siberia.
Praise for Triumpho's writing:
"His writing captures . . . the essence of agriculture and the rural environment tying them back to literature and poetry."
Walter J. Clark, Dean Emeritus, SUNY Cobleskill, College of Agriculture
"Fine writing . . . brings back memories of my own country boyhood."
Sigurd F. Olson, author of The Singing Wilderness and past president National Parks Association
