A Floating World
More People, Places, and Pastimes of the Thousand Islands

Paul Malo

Paper $19.95    |    0-9669729-2-9    |   2004

The third volume in the author's series recalls development of the Thousand Islands as a summer resort and social colony.

Description
A Floating World is a sequel to Fools' Paradise, forming a trilogy with Boldt Castle. Hundreds of historic photographs illustrate a conversational narrative and historical articles, bringing vividly to life a vanished way of life.

Celebrities of the Broadway stage, motion pictures, and the Metropolitan Opera joined high-rolling new millionaires, artists, politicians, and philanthropists in this floating world of steam yachts and skiffs, castles and cottages, sport and socializing. Photographs from private family archives together with plans of buildings and boats supplement stories of several landmark estates and those who enjoyed them.

Author
Paul Malo is professor emeritus of architecture at Syracuse University. He is the author of Boldt Castle: In Search of the Lost Story and Fool's Paradise, both distributed by Syracuse University Press.

61/2 x 91/2, 150 pages

Distributed for Laurentian Press
